Yeah, we open on a scene with Increase Mather having a discussion with his unnamed daughter (Cotton’s sister) and Cotton. It is a bit confusing, though.

A beautiful interpretation. Isn’t Increase Cotton’s daughter in the song, though? I don’t get it. Oh well, it’s a wonderful song anyway.
